Hilary Faktor is a writer shaped by the boreal forest and the rhythms of a northern mining town. Her work often draws on family folklore and lived experience to explore overlooked landscapes, quiet histories, and the people who inhabit them.

Her essays and journalism have appeared in Canada’s History, The Globe and Mail, HuffPost Canada, and Maclean’s, among other publications. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in English at the University of Calgary.

Her debut novel, Pretty Bird, is a contemporary coming-of-age thriller that moves from modern-day Toronto to an isolated Saskatchewan farm. The novel will be released by Rowan Prose Publishing on October 20, 2026.

When she isn’t writing or studying, Hilary can often be found wandering bookshops, attending writers’ conferences, or driving her daughters between sports and activities while listening to audiobooks, with her black lab close by.
